Friend of mine had the great idea to buy a Land Rover and convert it into a full equipt Camper Van. Up until now, everything has been progressing well. However, back in February, when my friend proposed the idea of embarking on a trip together using his Land Rover, I had my reservations. The reason for my skepticism was that the car was far from being adequately prepared for a journey. But he caught me in a weak spot so I said instantly: “Yes, of course, we do that!”.
I asked him if he was able to finish the essential stuff for the Land Rover. And to my surprise, everything he planned was finished. Finally, the car was ready, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready too.
11th March, The day of the start of our Journey. As we both live in Switzerland he picked me up in the morning and we drove down to Livorno, where we booked a Ferry. The Ferry left at 10 pm and we arrived in Sardinia on Sunday at around 8 am.
We finally made it to Sardinia, but no one of us planned even a little thing, so we didn’t know where to go exactly, where the beautiful places would be, or even where we should stay overnight.
I must admit, I had some concerns about that initially. However, as it turned out, things worked out surprisingly well. We were able to consistently find peaceful locations to park the car, set up the roof tent, and thoroughly enjoy ourselves.
It was my first time sleeping in a roof tent and it was a nightmare! I have to say that I’m anyway not too enthusiastic when it comes to camping. And not only that it was uncomfortable to sleep, but it was also freaking cold on top of that.
After the first night, we planned that we will drive through the Island without a clear plan, just driving as we like and seeing as most of the Island as we were able to in the 5 days we had. Despite the prevailing circumstances, the trip was truly remarkable, filled with enjoyable moments, capturing fantastic photos, and providing a much-needed respite from the routines of daily life.
